Student and Host Team Pastor Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

  • The Student and Host Team Pastor is a full time position, and is a vital leadership role within our church community, responsible for guiding, nurturing, and empowering the students through SWITCH, our student ministry and leading our Sunday morning Host Team.

    This individual will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies to engage, disciple, and integrate our youth into the life of the church. We are seeking a visionary leader with a passion for ministry, a heart for students and community, and a deep commitment to fostering spiritual growth among the next generation.

    While the primary responsibility of this role is geared toward our students, this person will also be tasked with the responsibility of leading our Sunday morning Host Team. Host Team is our greeting/ hospitality team that serves on Sunday morning in and around the lobby. This is a forward-facing position that is vital to the mission and ministry of Roots Church.

Primary Responsibilities in two parts:

1. The Student and Host Team Pastor will oversee our student ministry, SWITCH

  • Plan, structure and lead Roots Church Student Ministry, SWITCH.

  • Organize, set up, purchase, and maintain all material needs for SWITCH.

  • Create avenues for students to hear the gospel, develop healthy relationships, be discipled, grow in obedience, and live on mission.

  • Connect with students in their environment to develop core student ministry relationships.

  • Recruit, train and lead volunteers to love and lead students.

  • Oversee the development, direction and communication of SWITCH volunteers and ministry team.

  • Plan and implement effective seasonal activities/camps/mission trips for the SWITCH students to keep them connected and growing in their faith

  • Commit to the core values of Roots Church Tahlequah and willing to meet partnership requirement.

  • Work to develop strong Student Leaders and help to identify next steps for their leadership development within Roots Church.

  • Develop relationships in the community with schools and organizations to build bridges into student culture.

  • Partner with parents or guardians to lead their children to be Fully Devoted Followers of Christ.

  • Maintain a professional work ethic as a leader and Pastor of Roots Church Tahlequah.

  • Develop and oversee the Roots Church Student Ministry budget.

  • Ensure all Ministry staff and leaders follow safety and security procedures

    including background checks for volunteers.

2. The Student and Host Team Pastor will oversee our Host Team.

  • Plan, structure, and organize our Sunday Morning Host Team.

  • Ensure all hospitality supplies and needs are preprepared before Sunday services.

  • Recruit new volunteers to build upon the existing strong volunteer group of Host Team members we currently have.

  • Schedule Sunday morning Host Team volunteers through Planning Center.

  • Prepare name tags for serving team.

  • Create a comfortable and inviting environment at Roots Church that helps people know this is place they can attend, and more importantly, belong.

  • Train, and build up the Host Team members to exemplify hospitality.

  • Be ALL IN on Sunday morning and help build the hype as the team prepares to welcome people to Roots Church.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • A committed and professed follower of Jesus Christ.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in church leadership. Student ministry experience preferred.

  • Ability to lead teams effectively.

  • Passion for the local Church.

  • Able to work well within a Ministry Leadership team.

  • Organizational, practical, and goal-oriented leadership.
